Nine North Lakes based sporting clubs with a combined playing membership of 2,906, have just received winter season sponsorships from North Lakes Sports Club.
The clubs include Brisbane Northside Arm Bowlers, Lakers Softball, North Lakes Blues Netball, North Lakes Kangaroos Rugby League, North Lakes Eels Australian Rules Football, North Lakes Leopards Rugby Union, North Lakes Mustangs Football, Pine River Boars Rugby Union and The Lakes Football Club.
The funding will be used by each club to help pay for operating costs such as insurance, competition affiliation, coach and official development, sporting equipment and player uniforms.
Brisbane Northside Arm Bowlers Association are first-time recipients of North Lakes Sports Club’s support and are very excited to receive the sponsorship.
“We only started up in early 2019, so to have North Lakes Sports Club come on board is a big boost for us,” said their club president Tony Watson.
Arm bowling is the same as lawn bowling except bowlers are allowed to use a mechanical extension to help them bowl the ball.
“Many of our members have mobility issues, and can no longer bend forward enough to bowl in the traditional way.
“Arm bowling allows them to continue bowling, stay active, and keep socially connected,” added Mr Watson.
Club memberships and enquiries through their new website are being received from people living across the North Brisbane area including North Lakes, Sandgate, Woodford, Bribie Island, Caboolture, Narangba and Pine Rivers.
“Our focus in our early years was to increase membership and spread the word about arm bowling,” said Mr Watson.
Since North Lakes Sports Club’s opening in May 2017, over $95,000 in-cash sponsorships have been provided to North Lakes-based sporting clubs.
An additional $100,000 of in-kind support has also been provided to cover electricity, gas, cleaning, security, pest management and other sporting complex operational costs at the Kinsellas, Woodside and Aurora sports venues.
